This application contains a number of virtual laboratories (or labs) designed to complement topics covered in engineering electromagnetics courses. The labs are designed to actively involve students and to provide visual feedback of basic concepts.
Students select a lab from a list of available labs that are displayed at startup. The labs include the following:
Smith Chart Laboratory - helps with visualizing information displayed on a Smith Chart and quantities calculated using a Smith Chart.
Transmission Line Laboratory - simulates the normalized voltage and current standing wave patterns on a transmission line with the reflection coefficient plotted on a Smith Chart.
Shunted Transmission Line Laboratory - simulates the normalized voltage and current standing wave patterns on a transmission line with a tuning stub connected in parallel.
Incident Plane Wave Laboratory - simulates a uniform plane wave incident on an interface between two media.
Time Domain Reflectometry Laboratory - simulates pulses traveling on a transmission line composed of a couple segments.
Uniform Array Laboratory - simulates the array factor for a uniform array of linear antenna elements.
Nonuniform Array Laboratory - simulates the array factor for binomial and Dolph-Tschebyscheff arrays.
Dipole Antenna Laboratory - simulates the far-field pattern and current distribution for a dipole antenna.
Dipole Antenna over Ground Laboratory - simulates the far-field pattern for a dipole antenna above a lossy or perfectly conducting ground plane.
Polarization Laboratory - simulates the polarization of a plane wave.
Spherical Charge Laboratory - simulates the electric field and potential due to electric charge.
Helix Antenna Laboratory - simulates the far-field pattern for the axial mode of a single-arm helix antenna.
Sectoral Horn - simulates the far-field patterns of an E-plane and H-plane sectoral horn.
Pyramidal Horn - simulates the far-field patterns of a pyramidal horn.
